SURVEY REVEALS THAT DRUMMERS MARCH TO THEIR OWN BEATS

Percussion Marketing Council's Lifestyle Survey
Shines the Spotlight on Drummers, Exposing Their Opinions Regarding
Politics, Trends, and the Bare Necessities

CLEVELAND, OH (December, 2004) - The Percussion Marketing Council (PMC), the percussion industry's trade organization, recently announced the results of its latest Lifestyle survey, which hits upon the opinions of drummers regarding a variety of topics ranging from the President to the latest fashion trends. More than 100 drummers participated in the online survey, which reveals many interesting and surprising answers, including survey respondents likening George W Bush to Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, according to Pat Brown, executive director of Percussion Marketing Council.

"Drummers always add a certain element of their own personality to a band, and we wanted to gain insight into their unique opinions regarding topics outside of the music business," said Brown. "Our survey found some funny and interesting answers that help shed light on drummer lifestyle preferences, and also reveal their opinions of the music industry and beyond."

Results from PMC's Lifestyle survey include:

  • George W Bush "Giving it Away"? - The majority of survey respondents (68%) named Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the drummer who most closely resembles George Bush, agreeing that both are "pranksters who can't be stopped once they start". Finishing second was Tommy Lee (11%), who's description of "clutch performer who's often despised by fans and the media" also resonated with survey respondents in terms of resembling Bush. Now if we could just get Laura Bush to attend the next Motley Crue reunion show...

  • Hey Baby... - When asked which singers they'd most like to backup, 47% of respondents said they would most like to drum alongside hot rocker Gwen Stefani,. With that in mind, is it terribly surprising that Michael Jackson (1%) and Prince (4%) finished last?

  • Pass The Potatoes Another Direction! - The majority of drummers surveyed (51%) agreed that the Atkins/low carbohydrate dieting trend is on its way out - apparently drummers, like runners, like to carb load before their marathons, too! In addition, 22% of drumming fashionistas see warm, snuggly Ugg boots as another passé trend that doesn't quite fit their rockstar image.

  • Can't Take That Away From Me - When asked what one device they just couldn't live without, 43% of respondents answered that their cell phones were an absolute necessity. Surprisingly, skateboards came in a close second at 28%, with most drummers opting to hold true to their old school roots rather than take on new technology like MP3s (12%) or Blackberries (6%).
